Since the prime matches in the World Cup 2010 are late into nights, crowds at the home appliance shops are yet to be seen. The activity and noise is expected to grow as the tournament advances.
However, there is just no decline in the passion. Hoardings are planted at almost all junctions, mostly celebrating Brazil and Argentina.

2010 has been a starry season so far, with high-profile celebrities hitting town for inaugurations and grand openings. It’s been just two months & a couple of days into the new year but 7 film celebrities have already made appearances.
January 5
The first starry event of 2010 was Mammootty at the M.G. University Youth Festival. A feverish Mammootty addressed the active youth at the Thirunakkara Maidan.
January 14-17
Then it was the flower show. Opening day featured Kunjacko Boban; Navya Nair and Suraj Venjaarammoodu in the next two days and Jyothirmayi on the final day.
February 14
It was then Mohanlal’s turn and there was the Malabar Gold Kottayam showroom opening. The event witnessed crowd in un-manageable sizes.

March 7
It was Dileep’s turn next with the Kalyan Jewellers Kottayam showroom opening.

After a long wait, the Dhanya Remya Twin Theatres will open on 11th Nov. 2011, 11 am.

If you were frowning thinking there aren’t much things to be excited about in Kottayam, this is great news for you. This is great news for just everyone, in fact. A state-of-the-art twin-theatre complex and an awesome-looking mall (yeah!) are in fast development.
The twin-theatre complex (from the Muthoot group) will be at Vayaskkarakkunnu on the Aida Junction – Pulimoodu Junction part of M.C. Road, approximately opposite to focuz motors showroom. WMall – The mall (from Wexco builders) will be near the Plantation Corporation junction, just adjacent to Cafe D’ Anns.

The twin-theatre complex will be finished and launched by the next Onam season early 2011 (Update on this with pictures).
The Dhanya Remya Twin Theatres will open on Nov. 11, 2011.
We don’t know about the launch date of the WMall, but it should be reasonably soon
(Update on 2010 Nov – the construction works were paused till now. Back in action now).
