Vimalagiri Cathedral Dressed in Colours

Kottayam’s Gothic beauty, the Vimalagiri Cathedral (one of the ‘places to visit’) was decorated in rich style for the annual feast. It is celebrated every 8th December, the Feast of Mary Immaculate. On this day people are allowed to use the stairs behind the Altar and go up near the statue of Mother Mary.

The Cathedral is one of the few churches in Kerala, built in true Gothic style. First-timers will be taken by huge awe & surprise and others will find it hard not to visit the Cathedral frequently. Such is the charm!

Almost a Sabarimala Basecamp

Every year, Kottayam, to be precise, Kottayam Railway Station becomes almost a basecamp for Sabarimala. Though Chengannur station is developed with this in mind, Kottayam is still the major stop en route Sabarimala by train. It has been so for years long back. During the season, railway station becomes a many in one spot. Buses, taxis and yeah, trains.

And the buzz never stops regardless of day and night.

Introducing Photowalks

Starting with this year’s Christmas we’ll be having Photowalks frequently. Means, we’ll roam around Kottayam and shoot photos of things that are worth celebrating.

We’re starting off with the Christmas Photowalk Series. Photos will be posted frequently as posts categorized under the Photowalk tag and finally we’ll pick the best ones from the many photowalks and compile them into one single post.

Here’s the first photowalk post showing the lovely decorated AVG showroom.

Update: The 2011 Darsana Book fair will be held from 28th January – 06th February at Thirunakkara Grounds.

26th Kottayam International Book Fair came to a close today evening after 10 glorious days of smooth running. It was a joy, celebrating it over here at KP. All our Book Fair posts are tagged “bookfair09“, which now serves as a report cum photo feature of the biggest annual event of Kottayam.

Next year, we plan on initiating something that will provide more stats, numbers and facts about the event.

Sad, but yes, it’ll take another year to experience this again.
